Trail Bits 2006 #42

Trail Bits # 42

Trail runs now start at 7:30 am

Congratulations to all of you that headed down to Victoria to run in either the Royal Victoria Marathon, Half Marathon or 8km. Lots of personal bests were recorded. I am not going to mention any particular names as there were far too many of you running on Sunday for me to even try and mention all of you. All I will say is great job everyone. I hope you all got to sit down for a feast of turkey later in the day.

The one person I will mention by name though is Steve Osaduik (The Wizard of OZ as they called him in the Times Colonist this morning).

On Sunday, Steve, the 2006 Canadian Half Marathon Champion successfully completed his quest of breaking Tom Howard’s 25 year old Royal Victoria Marathon course record of 2:18: 49 by running a time of 2:16:47 in this years Royal Victoria Marathon. Steve’s winning time will hopefully now allow him to represent Canada at the 2008 Beijing Olympics as part of the Canadian Marathon team…..Congratulations Steve.

Adventure Racing Clinic - I would appreciate getting some feed back from you on whether or not there would be enough interest to warrant me talking to Sean Lunny about offering a 10 week long “Adventure Racing Clinic”? The clinic would be designed on getting you prepped and ready to successfully complete a Mind Over Mountain Adventure Race in the spring of 2007. The weekly workouts would focus on mountain biking skills, building a stronger trail running base, kayaking, as well as orienteering (navigation). Time would also be spent on discussing what gear you need to have, proper hydration and nutrition during a race, what to wear, etc. The cost would be some where in the $90.00 price range. If you think you would be interested in some thing like this, please let me know. If there is enough interest, which I am sure there will be, I will discuss things further with Sean. Email me back at danbrady@shaw.ca
