Notes from Dan the trail guy--slightly delayed.

Some of this will be outdated now....sorry I was away!

Trail Bits
Great run up on the trails of Duomont. A Big Thank You to Derek, Dennis, and Owen for their great leading abilities. Everybody got in their necessary time and no one got lost or hurt and yes that was Brad that you saw sweeping for the whole run. Brad was over heard commenting how enjoyable the run is at the back of the pack. I wonder which other trail leaders we will see next at the back of the pack sweeping???? Great showing by the Nanaimo Trail runners at the Royal Roads GutBuster. A large number of Nanaimo addresses in the top 20. Stefan was second over all, John Lowen was fourth and Bobbie Jensen was third over all female. With the addition of Monti they took home the team trophy as well.

Frontrunners is having a Customer appreciation Night on April 20th and we are all invited…..open the attachment for details.

The World Harmony Run http://www.worldharmonyrun.org is on for Saturday May 7th. I won’t have further details until next week. Please let me know if you are interested and can help me organize this thing.

Membership meeting – Please mark May 14th in your day timer. There is going to be a very important Membership breakfast meeting of Runners of Compassion. Details will follow in the next week. The theme of the meeting will be “Funding”…..Who should we fund, how much should we fund them, etc, etc.

A couple of race notes to pass along from Steve Gagliano, President of Bastion ….
a) The Merville 15k is on Sunday, April 17th at 11am. Anyone wishing to carpool should meet at the Tim Hortons(north end near Canadian Tire)at 8:30. With the price of gas these days...it's nice to have members take turns driving! Let's get more members at this event as we are currently in 3rd place among the running clubs on the island!.....
b) The Subway Vancouver Island Relay takes place on Saturday, May 21st. We already have 8 teams and 2 ultra runners signed up for this fun event! Remember, the Bastion Running Club will pay the $375 team registration fee for the first 3 teams to sign up(all runners must be paid up members)! Ask anyone who participated the past few years about what it is like to be part of a relay team...it's an awesome feeling!....Runners of Compassion should put a Relay Team into this event.
c) The Nanaimo Regional Hospital Foundation 5k fun run will take place the following weekend on Sunday, May 29th at Bowen Park. This year's early bird prize will be a getaway packages at Tigh-N-Mara resort worth approximately $1000...yes a $1000 which includes the spa, dinners and lodging! Watch for the registration brochures which will be out shortly and register right away for this worthwhile fund raiser. I will be looking for volunteers from the club as well so let me know if you are interested. A special thank you to Runners of Compassion for again being one of the major sponsors of this event!

ABS Class – There are a couple of spots left for the Monday morning class if you are interested. Contact Sean at seanlunny@shaw.ca

Runners of Compassion technical tops – I have spoken to Stefan and Rob Reid of Frontrunners and they have informed me that they will be ordering male and female short sleeve technical tops with a small Roc log on them. Watch for toques and long sleeve tops coming in the fall.

Cowichan River run – is on hold until Dave Kuhawly gets his ankle properly healed…sorry! We will run it but might have to wait until after Port Angeles now.

Okay the important stuff – The Run Location! A run into Ammonite Falls….The details this week are a little confusing, sorry because a number of us have to get a 2:45 run in this Saturday so we are going to be heading out at 6:30 am from Westwood for a run which will include about 12k of road and about 5 k of trail.

· Option # 1 – meet at Westwood lake at 6:30 AM run with me into Ammonite Falls and then heading out through the gravel pit for a road run…You must bring water and some food source – This is the 2hr & 45 min run
· Option # 2 - meet at Westwood Lake at 6:30 AM run with us into Ammonite Falls and then back out to Westwood. Brad and Kathleen will lead this group. This will take about 1 hour and 45 minutes. We will all run together until we get to the falls.
· Options # 3 – meet us at the yellow gate on Jameson Road at 7:00am. For a shorter run into the falls and back out. This will take about one hour. To get to the yellow gate Take Jingle Pot Rd to Kilpatrick Rd, turn right on Jameson Rd and follow Jameson to the end where you come to the yellow gate.
