Attention Trans Canada Trail Users--Extension Ridge Trail--Abyss

From the offices of the RDN

Notice of Temporary Trail Closure

Weyerhaeuser has advised that harvesting will commence on their private lands in the vicinity of the Extension Ridge portion of the Trans Canada Trail, starting in late March (note from frontrunners; this has started).

A buffer area has been demarcated and no harvesting will occus withing the Trans Canada Trail corridor. However due to the proximity of the harvesting in places, Weyerhaeuser will be closing the Trail on a temporary basis from time to time.

Weyerhauser advises harvesting is due to start in late March, and may continue into late May 2005 or beyond.

The Regional District of Nanaimo and Trails B.C. have signed public access agreements with Weyehaeuser to allow the Trans Canada Trail access over private forest land. This access if subject to harvesting activities.

To guarantee your safety, and to ensure that the public trail access over private land can be quickly reinstated, please obey any trail closed signs.

Any inconvenience is regretted.

Thank you for your consideration.
