Notes from Dan the trail guy #3
Wow, what a turn out today for the run..over 50 people came andconquered the beast known as the GutBuster. The Advance Group took a wrong turn (??) and managed to keep their feet dry most of the way. They ran the lake trail to the power lines and missed the two first stream crossings that the rest of us did. Now we know why that group is always faster than the rest of us, they take short cuts..?*
Owen Carr, the Treasurer of ROC mentioned today that he just did the latest bank deposit and the cook books have now grossed more than$4,700, net proceeds just tipped over $2,500. Amazing results. For those of you that don't know, Kathleen Richardson and Ruth Laird came upwith the ROC Cookbook idea earlier this year. These two women single handedly berated and bullied us all into handing in our favorite recipes, they then arranged the design, layout, printing and selling ofthe finished product. Thanks to the two of them, ROC ended up with afurther $2500.00 to use in our charity work. On behalf of ROC and allthe folks that will benefit from your hard work I would like to say"Thank You" to Ruth and Kathleen.
A Big Thank You to Norm, Stefan and Kari for hosting us backat the store for coffee, juice, bagels, muffins and doughnuts. It was agreat time. I think the customers coming in were a little confused as to who the heck the rag tag bunch of mud covered people were in the store.
The Runners of Compassion Board of Directors are happy to tell all of you that the Funds Distribution Committee will be using$1000 of the proceeds from the Nanaimo Daily News Harbour City HalfMarathon and 10K Road Race to purchase pre-packaged Christmas GroceryBags from Thrifty Foods. The food bags will help make a number ofNanaimo citizens Christmas season a little brighter.
Monday January 10th is the date of the Runners of Compassion- Nanaimo Chapter, Annual General Meeting. The meeting takes place at 7:00pm and is being held in the Nanaimo Hornets Rugby Clubhouse on DoverRoad. If you are a member of Runners of Compassion, which most of you that receive my emails are, I would like to ask that you seriously consider putting your name forward for one of the eight Directors positions. Being a director of ROC takes very little time, we meet as aBoard, the first Saturday of the month after the run. The sacrifice thatyou need to make is missing coffee at Starbucks once a month.
The Directors who are stepping down from the Board have been involved with the Directorship of our Society since its inception over three years ago and have done an amazing job. We are requesting that members who are interested, and wish to have their name put forward for one of the eight directors positions, to please do so before the end of December by contacting either Bob Patrick bpatrick@eba.ca or Dan Brady danbrady@shaw.ca
Thank you,
Dan
Merry Christmas to all of you and your families. May all of you enjoy awarm and joyous holiday season.
